Rain likely to cause flooding across parts of Atlantic Canada

Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island

Rain is expected to continue over Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island tonight and Saturday. Rainfall amounts of 25 to 35 mm is expected across eastern PEI while central, northern and eastern Nova Scotia, including Cape Breton, will see 25 to 50 mm of rain.

This rain, combined with snow already on the ground, is likely to cause flooding.

On Saturday night, rain will transition to snow across the northern half of the province. At that time the rain that has fallen will freeze.

Newfoundland

The weather will also turn unsettled across western and parts of central Newfoundland on Saturday morning with rain and freezing rain. All areas will change to rain by the afternoon.

The southwest and west coasts could receive 40 to 70 mm of rain, locally 100 mm could fall.

This rain, combined with snow already on the ground, is likely to cause flooding.

Temperatures are expected to quickly fall below the freezing mark Saturday night and rain will change to snow.
