Rain, Snow, and Gusty Wind Expected Across NL #nlwx

An area of low pressure will be the dominant weather features across Newfoundland and Labrador over the next couple of days.

The system is expected to bring rain, snow, and gusty winds to the province. The rain is already underway across the west coast of the province.

Several weather alerts have also been issued across the province. There are snowfall warnings in western Labrador where 15 to 20 cm is expected. For areas in Labrador under a special weather statement, snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm is not out of the question.

In Newfoundland, the rain will be the most prevalent form of precipitation today. There are special weather statements in effect for the south and west coast with 15 to 30 mm of rain expected along the south coast. On the west coast, the rain that is falling today will likely mix with or change over to snow on Friday as temperatures fall. Over higher elevations 10 centimetres of snow is possible. Although it won't stick around long as rain returns on Saturday night.

Gusty winds are also expected in the Wreckhouse area where a Wrekhouse wind warning is in effect. Winds gusts up to 100 km/h are forecast late this evening and after midnight.

For marine interests, there are gale warnings in effect for zones around Newfoundland and Labrador. Gusts from 35 to 45 knots are expected and waves of 5 to 7 metres are expected on Friday morning along the west coast.
