Schools Closed in Newfoundland as Storm Moves Through

The majority of schools are closed in Newfoundland and Labrador this morning as a weather system moves through.

Winds are gusty across the Island portion of the province this morning and snow has transitioned to ice pellets and freezing rain for some areas. The wind will diminish as the day progresses and precipitation across the island will change to rain with the exception of the Northern Peninsula where precipitation is expected to remain as snow or ice pellets.

Several weather alerts remain in effect. There are also power outages.

Travel is a mess this morning on many of the highways across the province with travel not recommended in some areas.

Marine Atlantic has cancelled crossings for this morning and advises that tonight's crossings could be impacted too.
