A series of powerful earthquakes, the strongest being a magnitude 7.4, off the coast of eastern Russia, prompted tsunami concerns for the coast of Russia, Hawaii, Japan, and Midway Island.

While there is no longer a tsunami threat, tsunami waves of 0.3 to 1 metres were expected for the eastern coast of Russia. For Hawaii, Japan, Midway Island, and the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, tsunami waves were expected to be less than 0.3 metres.

The earthquakes occurred off the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia.
