Severe Thunderstorms Roll Across Quebec

On Saturday evening an area of low pressure with a cold front tracked across southern areas of Quebec.


As a result of the cold front, there were severe thunderstorms.


The thunderstorms brought strong wind gusts and hail larger than 2 centimetres. In some cases, tree branches were broken, and around 50 000 power outages were reported.


Summary of hail:

  • Charlesbourg, from 4:20 PM to 4:20 PM 1.5 cm

  • St-Sauveur, from 5:00 PM to 5:15 PM 3 - 3.5 cm

  • Prevost, from 5:00 PM to 5:15 PM 1.5 cm

  • St-Lin-Laurentides, from 5:10 PM to 5:20 PM 2 - 4 cm

  • St-Roch-de-l'Achigan, from 5:10 PM to 5:15 PM 1 - 2 cm

  • Ste-Sophie, from 5:10 PM t0 5:15 PM 2 - 4 cm

  • Contrecoeur, from 5:35 PM to 5:45 PM 1.5 - 2 cm

Wind gusts:

  • Montreal, at 6:00 PM 87 km/h

  • St-Valère, at 6:15 PM 85 km/h
