Snow, rain, and freezing rain expected across Ontario and Quebec

Ontario

Southwestern and central Ontario, the Golden Horseshoe and southeastern portions of northeastern Ontario will see heavy rain.

Rain over southwestern Ontario will progress northeast through Saturday. Total rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm are expected by late Saturday evening.

Rain will change to snow overnight Saturday into Sunday morning.

Eastern Ontario will get 10 to 20 mm of rain. Rain is expected to transition to snow overnight Saturday into Sunday morning.

On Sunday, heavy rain is expected. 5 to 15 mm of rain is possible before a change to snow Sunday morning. The higher rainfall amounts will be toward the St. Lawrence River where the transition to snow occurs last.

Total accumulations of 10 to 15 cm are expected, with the highest amounts east of Ottawa to Cornwall.

Southern portions of eastern Ontario will see 5 to 15 mm of rain is possible before a change over to snow Sunday morning. Snow is expected to taper off early Monday morning. Total snowfall accumulations of 5 to 10 cm are possible. Portions of central Ontario to the North Bay and Temiskaming area will see 5 to 15 cm of snow.

Across northeastern Ontario, snow is expected to begin overnight into early Saturday morning. Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are expected. 5 to 10 cm in some areas where precipitation is expected to be mixed with rain or where snow will be lighter.

Snow is expected to taper through Saturday night, with just light snow lingering into Sunday.

Areas along the Ottawa River from Pembroke to Temiskaming will see freezing rain overnight into Saturday morning. Given temperatures near the freezing mark, impacts are expected to be low. As temperatures rise above zero, any freezing rain will become rain through the morning.

On Sunday, areas southeast of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay will see snow. Amounts of 5 to 10 cm are possible. Northwesterly winds gusting up to 70 km/h may result in local blowing snow over exposed areas. Lake effect snow will taper, and winds will diminish Sunday night.

Most of southwestern Ontario and portions of the Golden Horseshoe will see wind gusts to 70 km/h Sunday morning and continue through the day. Winds will diminish Sunday night.

Quebec

Across Quebec, a weather system is expected this weekend.

Tonight snow will begin over Central Quebec and will reach Eastern Quebec on Sunday. Snow will continue until Monday.

Snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are expected, although some areas over higher terrain could see 15 cm.

On Sunday afternoon snow is expected to start over the Gaspé Peninsula and the North Shore. This system should then reach the Lower North Shore areas on Monday. Significant snowfall amounts are possible in several areas, especially over higher elevations.

Strong winds and high tide could cause minor flooding in the Quebec City area early Sunday evening. Meanwhile, the combination of winds, waves and high tides could lead to minor flooding over areas exposed to swells early this week.
