Storm batters southern and eastern Ontario with snow, rain, and freezing rain

Southern and eastern Ontario received significant snowfall last night and this afternoon.

The heaviest snowfall amounts were observed north of Lake Ontario into eastern Ontario. Milder temperatures near the lower Great Lakes resulted in precipitation falling as rain or a rain-snow mix.

Snow wasn''t the only concern, some areas received rain and freezing rain.

Several hours of freezing rain were reported across parts of southern Ontario Thursday as the system moved in. The freezing rain combined with gusty winds led to dangerous winter driving conditions and local power outages.

Freezing rain was reported in London, Waterloo, Hamilton, and St. Catharines.
