Storm System to Impact Atlantic Canada



An area of low pressure impacting parts of Ontario and Quebec will move into the Maritimes today.


Snow is expected across New Brunswick this morning. The snow will change to rain over central and parts of northern New Brunswick this afternoon. There is a risk of ice pellets during the transition. Snowfall amounts of 20 to 35 cm are expected.


Snow is expected across Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island today. The snow will quickly change to rain. Most of Nova Scotia will see 20 to 40 mm of rain. Across most of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, wind gusts to 100 km/h are expected, mainly for coastal areas. Gusts between 130 and 150 km/h are expected for Margaree Harbour to Bay St. Lawrence.


Snow will also move across Labrador today and tomorrow. 15 to 25 cm of snow is expected for Labrador City, Wabush, and Churchill Falls.


Snow and rain will move across Newfoundland tonight and Thursday. Across the west coast, southwest coast, and parts of central, 5 to 10 cm of snow is expected. For the west and southwest coast, wind gusts from 80 to 100 km/h are expected. In areas prone to enhanced easterlies to southeasterlies gusts could reach 140 km/h. In the Wreckhouse area winds may gust to 150 km/h later this afternoon until late overnight tonight.
