Stormy Weather Continues Across Newfoundland

It is day two of stormy weather across Newfoundland and Labrador. Several schools either have a delayed opening or are closed for the day including some post-secondary institutions.

Wind warnings, snowfall warnings, winter storm warnings, and special weather statements remain in effect across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Areas under a wind warning can expect to see gusts between 80 and 110 km/h until this evening. Another 5 to 15 cm of snow and wind gusts to 70 km/h is expected for those locations under a winter storm warning. Another 5 to 10 cm of snow is expected for snowfall warning areas.

There is a special weather statement advising of 6 to 8 metres, breaking upon approach to shore for south-facing shorelines on the Burin and southern Avalon Peninsulas until this evening.

On some areas of the west coast and the Avalon, travel is not recommended due to road conditions.

Marine Atlantic has cancelled crossings for this morning. Crossings for this evening could also be impacted.
