A 7.5 magnitude earthquake occurred early on Friday morning in the Drake Passage in the southern Atlantic Ocean.
The earthquake was at a depth of 10 km and was centred 709.5 km south-southeast of Tolhuin, Argentina.
The National Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami danger for the U.S. east coast, the Gulf of Mexico states, or the eastern coast of Canada. It added that earthquakes of this size are known to generate tsunamis potentially dangerous to coasts outside the source region.
