Strong Earthquake off British Columbia Coast

A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Vancouver Island just before 8:00 am this morning.

The earthquake was centred 233.4 km southwest of Port McNeill at a depth of 7.3 kilometres.

Since the earthquake was offshore there are no reports of damage, and none would be expected. Additionally, the earthquake was not felt.

The NWS National Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer Alaska said there was no tsunami threat for the area.

British Columbia and the entire Pacific Coast are prone to earthquakes.
