Strong earthquake off the coast of New Zealand

There has been a 6.7 magnitude earthquake off the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand.


The earthquake occurred at 2:43 p.m. local time and was at a depth of 10 kilometres.


It was centered 159.9 kilometres west-southwest of Riverton, New Zealand.


There was no tsunami threat, but coastal residents were advised to stay away from the shore as unusual currents may occur.
