Strong Weather System to Impact British Columbia


A strong area of low pressure will push into British Columbia on Tuesday.


The low will bring heavy rain and strong winds to coastal areas. Inland sections and even inland areas of Vancouver Island will see some snow from this event.


There are wind warnings, snowfall warnings, and a rainfall warning in effect.


Wind warnings are in effect for:

  • Central Coast - coastal sections

  • East Vancouver Island

  • Greater Victoria

  • Haida Gwaii

  • North Coast - coastal sections

  • North Vancouver Island

  • Southern Gulf Islands

  • Sunshine Coast

  • West Vancouver Island

Winds will increase to southeast 90 to 120 km/h over Haida Gwaii early Tuesday morning and ease to south 40 to 60 km/h near noon. Winds will rise to southeast 90 km/h gusting to 110 over the exposed areas of North Vancouver Island, Central Coast- Coastal and North Coast - Coastal regions on Tuesday morning and ease to south 50 km/h late in the afternoon.


Snowfall warnings have been issued for:

  • Kinbasket

  • North Columbia

Heavy snow from the system will continue through this evening with total accumulations up to 20 cm expected before the snow tapers off to a few flurries overnight.


A rainfall warning in effect for:

  • West Vancouver Island

Heavy rain will begin Tuesday morning over West Vancouver Island. Total rainfall amounts in excess of 100 mm are expected by Tuesday evening.
