Strong wind and heavy rain to impact Vancouver area

A large area of low pressure is expected to bring strong winds to much of Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland including Metro Vancouver beginning on Sunday.

Wind gusts to 90 km/h are expected for most areas and some coastal areas could potentially see gusts as high as 110 km/h.

The strong winds will continue through Monday.

The low will also deliver rain to the area. From Sunday to Tuesday there is the potential for some areas to see 80 mm of rain.

Wind warnings are in effect for:

• East Vancouver Island

• Sunshine Coast

• West Vancouver Island

Special weather statements are in effect for:

• East Vancouver Island

• Greater Victoria

• Howe Sound

• Metro Vancouver

• North Vancouver Island

• Southern Gulf Islands

• Sunshine Coast

• West Vancouver Island

On Tuesday night into Wednesday, another low is expected to impact the area. This low appears to be tracking further north and will bring rain and wind to coastal areas.
