Strong winds send deck furniture flying on cruise ship

When most of us think about going on a cruise ship, we think of relaxation and sunshine, but passengers on the Independence of the Seas got quite the opposite.

Last week as the ship was leaving Port Canaveral, Florida, it was blasted by a brief but intense storm with dangerously high winds and rain.

The video below shows deck chairs being tossed into the air and people struggling to hold on to the ship.

Independence of the Seas, operated by Royal Caribbean International, has 15 decks, measures 339 metres long, and typically cruises at 21.6 knots.
