The Atlantic Ocean has become a lot more active, and by the end of the week, there could be three named storms, one of which already exists.
There is currently Hurricane Gabrielle, which is located over the central subtropical Atlantic.
Currently, there is an area of low pressure well east of the Leeward Islands. It is becoming better defined with showers and thunderstorms becoming better organized this afternoon. A tropical depression could form as early as tonight. Over the next few days, it will move west-northwestward to northwestward into the western tropical Atlantic, well north of the Leeward Islands.
There is also a tropical wave over the northeastern Caribbean Sea. As it moves west-northwestward, it will bring heavy rain and gusty winds to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands today, and across the Dominican Republic beginning tonight. Later this week, it will turn more northward and move over the southwestern Atlantic. A tropical depression is likely to form when the disturbance is in the vicinity of the Bahamas.
So far this year, there have been seven named storms. The next named storm will be Humberto.
