Travel disrupted as blizzard cripples Prairie provinces

A strong low-pressure system is driving heavy snow, high winds, and blowing snow across the Prairies.


Blizzard warnings are in effect for much of southern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba, while there are winter storm warnings for parts of eastern Alberta and southeastern Manitoba. Snowfall warnings in central and northwest Alberta and the Rockies.


Wind warnings across southern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan, and freezing rain warnings in parts of southern Saskatchewan.


Snowfall of 10–20 cm or more is expected in southern Saskatchewan and into Manitoba, with blizzard conditions likely—especially near North Battleford, Saskatoon, and eastward through Winnipeg.


Strong winds (with gusts over 100 km/h in some areas) are enhancing blowing snow and low visibility.


Some freezing rain and flash freeze risk remains in southeastern Alberta and southern Saskatchewan before changing to snow.


Roads across Alberta are snow-covered. The QEII between Airdrie and Calgary has been closed due to multiple collisions. Motorists are asked to deour via Veterans Boulevard in Airdrie.


In Saskatchewan, travel is not recommended in areas from Regina to Saskatoon. Highway 342 from the Junction to Highway 42 to the Junction to Highway 4.


Across Southern Manitoba, roads are snow-covered with reduced visibility.
