Tropical Depression Fourteen is located about 340 kilometres north-northeast of Veracruz, Mexico.
Over the next few days the system is likely to become a hurricane and could bring life-threatening conditions to parts of the west coast of Florida next week. The area is still reeling from Hurricane Helene.
The storm is also likely to have an impact on the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico, the Florida Peninsula, the Florida Keys, and the northwestern Bahamas.
The depression will remain over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico through the weekend, then move across the south-central Gulf of Mexico on Monday and Tuesday, and approach the west coast of the Florida Peninsula by midweek.
