It will be an unsettled couple of days across most of Ontario.

Wednesday

On Wednesday morning into the evening, strong winds from the southwest with gusts up to 80 km/h are possible for the Northeastern shores of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

Portions of northeastern and far northeastern Ontario will also see winds gusting up to 70 km/h as a cold front moves through on Wednesday morning into early afternoon. This cold front will also deliver 5 cm of snow.

Areas east and northeast of Lake Superior, North Channel, Lake Huron and Georgian Bay will see winds gusting to 70 km/h in the morning.

A low pressure system will begin to push into northwestern Ontario in the afternoon, possibly bringing 5 to 15 cm of snow. Snow will continue to spread eastward throughout the night, with the heaviest amounts expected on Thursday.

Thursday

On Thursday, snow and blowing snow are expected north of Lake Superior, extending northeast to the Quebec border.

Snowfall amounts of 20 to 30 cm are possible, combined with winds gusting up to 50 km/h, causing reduced visibility and blowing snow. The snow will continue into Friday.

Portions of northern and far northern Ontario will see snowfall amounts of 5 to 15 cm and gusty winds.

Most of southern Ontario and portions of northeastern Ontario will see 15 to 25 mm of rain on Thursday afternoon, continuing into the evening. The frozen ground will have a limited ability to absorb this rain. Snowmelt may add to the potential for localized flooding. Rain will begin to switch to snow Thursday evening as temperatures begin to drop.
