Unsettled Weather & Thunderstorm Risk Across Eastern United States

An area of low pressure will bring snow to the Upper Midwest and Upper Great Lakes region today.

The heaviest snow is expected in northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan through Thursday morning. Several inches of snow is expected. Gusty winds are also expected.

To the south, rain and thunderstorms are expected ahead of a strong cold front associated with the low pressure system. Rainfall totals of over an inch are expected for portions of the Lower Mississippi Valley into the Tennessee Valley through Thursday morning.

By Thursday evening, strong winds and heavy rain are expected to enter the central Appalachians and Northeast. This rainfall on top of an abundance of fresh snow could lead to flooding concerns.

It looks like a severe weather set up on Thursday, particularly in the morning, across Alabama and southwestern Georgia.

Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible. Severe thunderstorms are also expected across the Mid-Atlantic States Thursday afternoon and evening.
