Volcano erupts on Canary island

Thousands of people have been evacuated in La Palma after the Cumbre Vieja volcano erupted on Canary island.

Several homes have been destroyed as lava flowed toward the coast.

New eruptions continued into Sunday night.

Cumbre Vieja last erupted in 1971.

The Canary Islands, governed by Spain, is located off the west coast of Africa.

There was a 4.2-magnitude earthquake recorded before the eruption.

The U.S. National Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami danger for the U.S. East Coast or Canada.
