To start off the month, Saturn will be halfway up the southern sky. Its rings will be nearly invisible.
Jupiter will be situated in the eastern sky and will be visible all night.
On January 3rd, the sun appears bigger in the sky when it reaches perihelion. This happens annually when Earth is slightly closer to the sun, about 147 million kilometres away.
On the 10th, Jupiter will be at its brightest point of the year. By the 30th, the Moon will sit above Jupiter.
Moon Phases:
Full Moon (Wolf Moon): January 3
Last Quarter: January 10
