White Dwarf Star Has Giant Planet Orbiting It

Astronomers have found a star that resembles our sun that is eating a gas planet that is in its orbit.

WDJ0914+1914 is the first single white dwarf star found to have a giant planet orbiting it.

It is located roughly 1,500 light-years away from our planet.

It is unusual because it is destroying a gas planet.

Astronomers say that it is unusual for a star to be capable of doing that to a gas planet.

This is the first time a large planet has been found in such an orbit around a white dwarf.

When our sun runs out of energy in about 6 billion years it will destroy Mercury, Venus, and Earth.
