The Kingston wildfire has expanded to 3,001 hectares, stretching as far north as Island Pond, while the southern boundary remains largely unchanged. Coast Guard helicopters and the Canadian Armed Forces are working alongside local crews to contain the blaze.
Today’s efforts involve three water bombers, four helicopters, and ground crews, with work on fire breaks nearing completion. Ground teams have been withdrawn from the northern edge.
Firefighters are bracing for challenging conditions this afternoon and evening, with winds from the west and southwest expected to increase to 20–40 km/h.
In Holyrood, crews continue to battle a 22-hectare fire, while at Martin Lake, the wildfire has grown to 245 hectares, expanding on both its northern and southern fronts. Aircraft and ground crews remain active in the fight. Winds in the area will also come from the southwest at 20–40 km/h. Smoke is expected to be visible along Route 360 today, and motorists are advised that highway closures are possible.
