A low pressure system is bringing snow, blowing snow and strong winds to much of Ontario today, with conditions expected to persist into Saturday morning in some areas.

In southern Ontario, snowfall amounts of five to 10 centimetres are forecast. Winds are expected to strengthen this afternoon and evening, with gusts reaching up to 90 kilometres per hour, leading to reduced visibility in blowing snow and the risk of power outages.

Areas along the northern shores of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area, are expected to receive two to five centimetres of snow. Wind gusts of up to 80 kilometres per hour are forecast this afternoon into tonight, creating difficult travel conditions and local blowing snow.

In central and eastern Ontario, snow is expected to begin this afternoon. Total accumulations of five to 10 centimetres are forecast, with locally higher amounts possible. Snow squalls associated with a strong cold front may move through later today and tonight, producing brief near-zero visibility and wind gusts of up to 60 kilometres per hour.

Parts of northeastern Ontario may see snow squalls this morning into the afternoon. Snowfall amounts of two to five centimetres are expected, with winds gusting up to 70 kilometres per hour, resulting in sudden reductions in visibility.

Motorists are advised to use caution as winter driving conditions deteriorate across affected regions.
