A prolonged outbreak of extreme cold is expected to continue across much of Ontario from Saturday into Sunday, with some areas potentially affected into Monday. Dangerous wind chill values will create a high to very high risk of frostbite and hypothermia for anyone spending extended time outdoors without proper protection.

Far Northern and Northwestern Ontario

The coldest conditions are forecast for far northern and northwestern Ontario. Wind chill values of -40 to -50 are likely, with only slight daytime moderation Saturday before returning overnight into Sunday morning. The risk of frostbite and hypothermia is very high.

Far Northeastern Ontario

Portions of far northeastern Ontario can expect wind chills of -40 to -45. Conditions may ease slightly during the day Saturday, but extreme cold is expected to redevelop overnight into Sunday morning. The risk of frostbite and hypothermia remains high.

Northwestern and Central Ontario

Areas just northwest and north of Lake Superior, along with northeastern, central and eastern Ontario, will see wind chill values of -35 to -40. These values may return in some locations on Sunday morning. A high risk of frostbite and hypothermia is expected.

Southwestern Ontario and the Greater Golden Horseshoe

In southwestern Ontario and the Greater Golden Horseshoe, wind chills of -30 to -35 are forecast. While not as severe as farther north, there is still a risk of frostbite and hypothermia, particularly during prolonged outdoor exposure. Wind chills may again approach these levels Sunday morning.

Residents across the province are urged to dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and take precautions to protect against the extreme cold.
