Kyle Brookings/Wx Centre

The Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland woke up to the first significant snowfall of the season.

Rain and snow moved into the region last night and most areas saw a transition to snow.

Snowfall amounts vary across the region with some areas seeing 16 cm of snow. Portions of the Metro area saw 11 cm of snow.

There were some power outages in St. John's too. Power has since been restored according to Newfoundland Power.

Later today as the temperatures rise, snow will change to rain and eventually end by this afternoon.

The snow will not linger however, warmer temperatures will return on Sunday.
