La Niña Watch Issued, what it means for Hurricane Season and this Winter?

Neutral conditions are currently present in the tropical Pacific and those conditions are expected to last through the first past of Autumn.

As we head through September NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center has issued a La Niña Watch. La Niña conditions are possible beginning from September through November. Conditions may last through the winter.

La Niña is an oceanic and atmospheric phenomenon that is the colder counterpart of El Niño, as part of the broader El Niño–Southern Oscillation climate pattern.

Should these conditions develop, we could see an active end to the Atlantic Hurricane Season. Typically La Niña causes low wind shear and warmer sea surface temperatures.

In Canada, the inter will likely be cooler and snowier.
