If you look up tonight you may get a chance to see the Aurora Borealis. That is if sky conditions allow.

A major geomagnetic storm has hit Earth and there is a storm watch in effect.

These conditions are expected to continue over the next 24 hours in the Sub-Auroral zone.

Geomagnetic storms don't only offer a display of the Aurora Borealis, but there are safety implications as well.

Geomagnetically induced currents may cause misoperation of protective relays and transformer heating on power systems, there is a potential for severe disruptions of aeromagnetic surveys, and the potential for severe deviations with directional drilling.
