Maritimes and Newfoundland Brace for Winter Storm: Heavy Snow, Rain, and Strong Winds Expected

Beginning this evening an area of low pressure will push across the Maritimes.


Across much of New Brunswick, snow is expected from this evening until Monday morning. Snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm is expected for most of the province.


Winds will also be gusty resulting in blowing snow.


Lesser amounts of snow are expected over areas near the Fundy Coast where snow may change to rain.


Freezing rain is expected or occurring late this evening until Monday morning over Cumberland and northern Colchester counties in Nova Scotia. To areas north, accumulating snow is expected and areas south will see rain.


Channel-Port aux Basques and vicinity to Francois will see rainfall amounts of 30 to 60 mm while 25-45 mm of rain is expected over the Connaigre and Burin Peninsulas from this afternoon until Monday afternoon.


Behind the low, intense snow squalls are expected across western and southern Newfoundland Monday night through Thursday.


Precipitation will be mostly snow across Labrador, snowfall with total amounts of 15 to 25 cm is expected from Upper Lake Melville to Cartwright Junction Monday morning until late Monday evening.


Snow, blowing snow, and strong winds are expected from Hopedale to Makkovik from midday Monday until Tuesday morning. Snowfall amounts of 20 to 30 cm is possible.


Heavy snowfall and blowing snow are expected over the Rigolet area. Snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 cm are expected Monday morning until Tuesday morning.


 

Marine Atlantic has cancelled crossings for today and Monday morning. Crossing on Monday afternoon could also be impacted. Regional ferries operating on the west coast and southwest coast of Newfoundland are out of service.
