Over 200,000 without power in Ontario

A major freezing rain event is occurring over portions of central and northeastern Ontario and Manitoulin Island. Ice build-up of 10 to 20 mm is possible before precipitation switches over to snow. Freezing rain, possibly mixed with ice pellets at times, may persist into Monday morning.


Portions of central and eastern Ontario and Manitoulin Island will see a transition from freezing rain to rain today. Over the course of the weekend, 30 to 60 mm of rain is possible.


An additional 2 to 5 mm of ice build-up is possible for some areas. For only parts of Grey, Bruce, Dufferin, Simcoe counties and York-Durham, total precipitation amounts (freezing rain plus rain) over the course of the weekend will be in the 30 to 60 mm range.


Portions of northeastern, central and eastern Ontario will see freezing rain today. Ice build-up of 5 to 10 mm is possible before temperatures eventually rise above zero. For portions of northeastern Ontario, freezing rain, possibly mixed with ice pellets at times, may persist into Monday morning before precipitation switches over to snow.


Portions of northeastern Ontario will see 15 to 30 cm of snow by Monday morning.


In Ontario, there are 221,887 customers without power.


Several hours of freezing rain possibly giving between 5 and 10 millimetres of ice accretion. Ice accretion amounts could reach 15 millimetres over the Mont-Laurier and Parc National du Mont-Tremblant areas.


The Manicouagan and Sept-Îles areas will see 20 to 30 cm of snow Monday morning through early Tuesday morning.


Over New Brunswick, precipitation will begin as snow tonight before changing to ice pellets then freezing rain by Monday morning. Freezing rain will transition to rain later on Monday morning for southern New Brunswick and in the afternoon for the northern half of the province.
