Power outages, ferry cancellations in Atlantic Canada as storm rolls through


A low is continuing to impact Atlantic Canada.


Heavy rain is continuing in eastern Quebec. 120 to 160 millimetres are expected through Wednesday evening. Winds gusts to 100 km/h are also possible. Higher than normal water levels with large waves are expected near the coast.


Rain is continuing across Prince Edward Island before ending this afternoon. Up to 90 mm of rain is possible.


Heavy rain is continuing across Nova Scotia with 150 mm of rain expected over eastern mainland Nova Scotia and Cape Breton. Wind gusts to 100 km/h are expected over eastern mainland Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.


Heavy rain is expected over southwestern Newfoundland and strong winds are occurring over the west coast. Rainfall of 200 mm is possible. Winds may gust to 110 km/h except 160 km/h in the Wreckhouse area.


There are 5,722 customers without power in Nova Scotia and 166 outages on Prince Edward Island.


There is the potential for localized flooding and power outages from this storm.


Marine Atlantic advises customers that due to impending weather conditions the following departures have been cancelled

  • North Sydney to Port aux Basques Tuesday, November 23, at 1230

  • Port aux Basques to North Sydney Tuesday, November 23, at 1145

  • North Sydney to Port aux Basques Tuesday, November 23, at 2315

  • Port aux Basques to North Sydney Tuesday, November 23, at 2345
