The highest risk for severe weather today is expected across northwestern Ontario and southeastern Manitoba, where damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall are possible. Elsewhere across Ontario and the Prairies, scattered thunderstorms may produce localized impacts, particularly from heavy rain and strong wind gusts.
An area stretching from the Kenora region south toward the Minnesota border is under a high thunderstorm risk, where conditions are favourable for severe thunderstorms capable of producing wind gusts of 90 to 110 km/h, hail up to 2 to 3 cm in diameter, heavy rainfall totals of 20 to 40 mm and a risk of funnel clouds or isolated tornadoes in localized areas.
A separate area of moderate risk extends across southeastern Manitoba, including areas east of Winnipeg. Thunderstorms developing in this region may produce wind gusts near 90 km/h, hail between 2.5 and 4 cm in diameter, and rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm.
