There is an elevated risk of severe weather across portions of Manitoba and northwestern Ontario through Monday and into the overnight hours.

The highest threat area stretches from southeastern Manitoba into parts of northwestern Ontario, where forecasters are warning that severe thunderstorms could produce damaging winds, large hail, torrential rainfall and isolated tornadoes.

In Manitoba, an area of high risk covers much of the southeastern portion of the province, including regions near Winnipeg and Brandon. Storms in the area may be capable of producing wind gusts up to 110 km/h, hail between four and six centimetres in diameter and rainfall amounts ranging from 50 to 75 millimetres. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Surrounding areas of southern Manitoba remain under a moderate risk, where severe thunderstorms may still bring damaging wind gusts, large hail and locally heavy rainfall.

In Ontario, a corridor of high-risk severe weather extends across parts of the Kenora region in the province's northwest. Forecasters say thunderstorms developing in the area could produce wind gusts between 90 and 110 km/h, hail up to six centimetres in diameter and rainfall totals between 50 and 100 millimetres. Isolated tornadoes are also possible.

Areas surrounding the high-risk zone are under a moderate risk, with storms capable of generating damaging winds, large hail and heavy downpours.
