Significant weather set to impact Nova Scotia and Newfoundland

Significant weather is set to impact Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

Rain will move across Nova Scotia today but will change to snow tonight before coming to an end on Friday evening. Snowfall amounts of about 5 to 15 cm are expected for most areas. Amounts may exceed that on Cape Breton.

Snow or a rain-snow mix will push across Newfoundland overnight. Snow is expected for the west coast, rain and snow mix is anticipated for much of central Newfoundland and rain for the Avalon. Snow will make its way eastward over the day on Friday eventually reaching the Avalon. Conditions will clear west to east by Friday evening.

30 to 50 mm of rain is expected over the Burin and Avalon Peninsulas. In parts of central Newfoundland 15 to 30 cm of snow is possible. Only 5 to 10 cm of snow is expected for western sections.

A slight shift in the track could significantly alter snowfall amounts.

On the Avalon Peninsula, winds may exceed 100 km/h.

The Northern Peninsula will not be impacted by this storm.
