A powerful low-pressure system is expected to bring a mix of hazardous winter weather to several regions of Ontario beginning Sunday afternoon and continuing into Monday.
Forecasters say the storm could bring heavy snow, blowing snow, strong winds and periods of freezing rain, creating dangerous travel conditions across parts of the province.
In portions of northeastern Ontario, the storm is expected to arrive Sunday afternoon with rapidly accumulating snowfall of up to 30 centimetres possible in some areas. Wind gusts could reach 70 km/h, leading to blowing snow and significantly reduced visibility. Some communities may see a changeover to ice pellets or freezing rain Sunday evening.
Other parts of northeastern Ontario may see snowfall totals closer to 20 centimetres, with wind gusts up to 60 km/h.
In Grey County, Bruce County and parts of central Ontario, the system could bring a combination of brief heavy snowfall, local blowing snow and freezing rain on Sunday. Ice pellets may mix with the snow, which could reduce total snowfall amounts.
Meanwhile, portions of southwestern Ontario could see freezing rain as a warm front associated with the storm moves through the region Sunday.
