Parts of northern and central Ontario as well as western Quebec, could see strong to severe thunderstorms on Tuesday, with damaging winds, heavy rainfall and large hail among the primary threats.
Thunderstorms are possible across a broad area stretching from northeastern Ontario southward through parts of central Ontario and east toward the Ottawa Valley. Areas around Timmins, Sudbury, Huntsville and portions of eastern Ontario fall within the moderate risk zone.
The greatest concern will be the potential for strong wind gusts reaching 90 to 110 km/h in some areas. Large hail, measuring between 2.5 and 5 centimetres in diameter, is also possible with the strongest storms.
In central and eastern Ontario, thunderstorms may produce wind gusts of 90 to 110 km/h and hail up to 5 centimetres in diameter. Near the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding regions, wind gusts could reach 90 km/h with hail up to 2.5 centimetres.
Farther north, including areas near James Bay and communities around Moosonee, storms may bring wind gusts between 90 and 100 km/h, hail up to 3 centimetres and localized rainfall amounts approaching 40 millimetres.
A lower, minor risk area extends across portions of northwestern Ontario, including regions west of Thunder Bay and toward Kenora, where isolated thunderstorms may still develop but are expected to be less intense.
