An area of low pressure will bring a wintry mix of weather to Newfoundland and Labrador over the next couple of days.

Across Newfoundland, a period of unseasonably warm temperatures, rainfall, and strong winds is expected overnight Friday night until Saturday afternoon.

Newfoundland will see rain, which will be heaviest across the southwest coast. Amounts of 25 to 45 mm are possible in those areas. Wind gusts from 70 to 90 km/h, except 110 along parts of the coast, are expected.

The rain, combined with mild temperatures, may lead to significant snowmelt, runoff, and localized flooding.

To help prevent localized flooding, clear snow and ice away from storm drains and catch basins. Secure outdoor items that could be blown over by strong winds.

Across Labrador, snow, ice pellets, and freezing rain will be followed by mild temperatures, rainfall, and strong winds overnight tonight into Saturday night.

Over northern Labrador, snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 cm are possible. Over southeastern Labrador, rainfall amounts of 25 to 35 mm are expected.

On Saturday and Saturday night, winds will gust between 70 and 100 km/h for coastal areas.

The mild temperatures and rain may lead to significant snowmelt, runoff, and localized flooding.
